Casey West

Major: Computer Science

Expected Graduation Year: 2017

Cyber Scholar, Y3

CWIT has been an amazing part of my time at UMBC. When I first transferred to UMBC, CWIT was my gateway into a community of learning, growth, and support. Being a Cyber Scholar has helped me know that I want to pursue the cyber security field after graduation. Taking Cyber Practicum gave me weekly opportunities to learn about security related companies and to network with people in the industry. Attending the Grace Hopper Conference, courtesy of CWIT, helped me earn an internship at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. I also had the opportunity to spend a summer both abroad in Asia and then back at UMBC doing undergraduate research in Dr. Joshi’s mobile security lab. I enjoy taking my classes alongside friends from the CWIT community and appreciate how much this program has done for me. Outside of CWIT, I have been a leader for Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), a STEM club instructor, and a First Lego League volunteer.
