Industry Mentoring Program

**Mentor sign up is open for the 2023-24 academic year**

Online Mentor Application  (for best consideration, apply by August 20, 2023!)

Program Description:

Industry mentoring is an essential and intentional component of the CWIT Scholar experience. CWIT’s Industry Mentoring Program connects  Scholars, who are in their junior year of study, with an industry mentor.  Mentors inspire Scholars to think about the range of work options available and to actively support their career exploration, professional development, and networking in their field and/or industry.

A mentor’s commitment is for one academic year (September to May), although the pairing may continue if both the parties are interested. Each student will have a unique set of questions or areas in which she/he is seeking advice and mentoring support. CWIT staff members match each industry mentor as closely as possible with a specific student based on the mentor’s expertise and the student’s major, interests and goals.

Industry mentors are selected based on their work and life experience in the private and public sector and willingness to share their time, skills, and knowledge with a Scholar. Mentors are typically from companies and government agencies that already have a relationship with UMBC, The College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) or UMBC’s Career Center but this is not a requirement.

Applications are collected year round. Matches are made each summer for the upcoming academic year beginning each September.  All mentor applicants will be contacted by mid-September about the status of their application.
