Hello, my name is Mariah! I’m a computer science major and a Spanish minor, and I love all that comes with it. UMBC and more specifically, CWIT, allow me to expand upon my passions with my academics to follow through on things that I can apply in the real world. Recently, at CWIT’s annual networking event, I met and connected with a professor here at UMBC. After having a meaningful conversation with her about my interests, she offered for me to work at her research lab on campus! I’m currently helping conduct research at her AI laboratory in regards to environmentally disaster-stricken areas and detection from UAV images based on neural networking systems. I’m extremely grateful for CWIT and to have received this opportunity just in my first semester of university. I look forward to expanding my interests in different areas and gaining perspective wherever I go.
