CWIT Scholar, C20
Major: Information Systems
Expected Graduation: May 2024/2025
Hi, I’m Wendy and I’m an Information Systems (IS) major. I chose IS because of its flexibility within tech and the scope of class I get to take, ranging from learning Java to learning accounting. As someone who was unsure about my career path and had no experience with programming, choosing UMBC and becoming an IS student gave me the opportunity to see my place in tech. Additionally, being a CWIT Scholar and the CWIT Freshman Representative allowed me to be around a group of peers with similar goals but diverse backgrounds. Coming out of 2020 with little to no socialization, CWIT gave us the support and comfort we needed to be back on a physical campus. Because of my faculty mentor who I connected with through CWIT, I am a research assistant for the Institute for Harnessing Data and Model Revolution in the Polar Regions (iHarp). I create video annotations frame-by-frame of climate video, assist in machine learning mask creations, and am currently learning Python and PyTorch to create model algorithms. Aside from academia, I enjoy drawing, painting, reading, and taking walks.
